Neighbor gave me a little chrome bell to hang from under my bike to ward off road demons. He said another biker surpose to give you one, I've never heard of this.

 

true, that's what it is supposed to do. Ward off evil spirits.

you are supposed to ring it every time you go for a ride. some hang it close to the key so their finger hits it, some hang it where it is not noticeable.

The Legend:
Legend has it that a small bell attached to your motorcycle, close to the ground, catches the Evil Road Spirits. The Little Gremlins live on your motorcycle causing all kinds of mechanical problems. The cavity of the bell attracts these Evil Spirits, but when you hit bumps the ringing drives them insane and they lose their grip and fall to the ground. (Have you ever wondered where pot holes come from?)


My personal good luck charm....
Before I leave the house - I put my helmet on - lean over or pick up my 15 month old grandson (who lives with me), and he pats my helmet 3 times. This is a ritual when he's home, if he see's me pick up my helmet he comes running and waits for me to put it on and lean over or pick him up, he'll start throwing a fit if I don't.

Last Sunday 4 of us went for a ride...we all put our helmets on, lined up and my wife walked him down the line so he could tap them all...no wrecks, no break downs...

 

I wrecked my bike an hour after getting my bell.... Must have been defective...

 

There are also a number of threads on the forum. They keep the gremlins at bay. As for wrecks, another story. Even a bell can't fix stupid

That's a great ritual! Something that will always stay with your grandson for sure!! You should have him (when he's old enough) tie a bell onto your bike!
