Default Clutch Cable Dust Cover

Is it needed? Just bought a nice steel braided cable but it came with that ugly black boot to go over the adjusters which are nice shiney chrome. Do I really need to use that boot? Any ideas for chrome dust covers other than what HD has?

There is no seal in the cable housing, if you don't put the boot on it will let water and dirt down inside the housing and your cable could freeze up on you. If it were a show bike I guess it wouldn't matter, but if you plan on riding it you should put it on.

Figured that. Just wanted to get other thoughts. Guess I might have to spring the extra cash to the MoCo. for the chrome cover they sell that goes over that ugly black boot.
