I've used the chatterbox FRS systems and they work well for rider to pillion communications and for rider to rider. They now offer something that is Blue Tooth rider to passenger that can link up to other devices such as iPhones etc. Its their XBi model., but it comes with in-helmet speakers, not ear buds. You may be able to combine this with ear buds that work as ear plugs

See another thread for a discussion on ear buds

Riding is the one thing we can do together where I don't have to listen to her chatter.

so then i still am interested in ear plugs that can be hooked up to an ipod or other source, but which will be good at keeping out road and pipes noises--

There are many earbud sets out there to choose from, but if you want an inexpensive set that for the money sound pretty darn good, try the Skull Candy Ink'd.

For a player, I use the 2GB Sanyo MP3 unit which also has an FM radio. This little sucker will go 12 hours between recharges (via a mini USB plug) and I got it on sale for $39.00 2 years ago. Unlike an IPod, it's inexpensive, requires no proprietary software and if it gets wet or lost, no big deal. 2 years & 40,000 miles later it's still working great.

Take a look at the SCala Rider Q2 it is what you are looking for plus many other features.

Fits most 7/8", 1", and 1 1/4" handlebars.
Each is individually boxed and comes with an allen wrench for easy assembly.
