Default HD proximity key

Quick question about the proximity device that must be on you if you want to start the bike. ..
How hard would it be to use the system and switch the bike to "keyless" where all you would need to do is walk up to your bike with the device in your pocket and start it up... Anyone done this or tried to?

You could replace the ignition switch with a relay and wire it to operate with the run/stop switch. There are probably some undesirable side effects of doing this.

Yes-it's been done by H-D. Look at a touring bike with factory security.

why would you want to do this? you would have to wire around the safety neutral switch. then if you parked your bike in gear (on a hill) as soon as you walked close to it, it would run off. There is a system for cars you can buy at wal mart, I am sure you can wire it up to a bike. I wouldent suggest it though. although it does work on a button

So the HD proximity security thing automatically puts it in neutral when you get near it??
I just figure since the dealer explained to me that the system pretty much shut off all the electrical stuff off the bike when you walked away that if your bike was wired to "run" if YOU weren't close to the bike with the perimeter device it wouldnt start anyways..
But my knowledge with the system is super minimal.. I just got to thinking when the dealer was explaining it to me. It reminded me of the cars that have push button starts where you only need the key in your pocket

Maybe I misunderstood. You want it to be keyless. Not a remote starter. I thought you wanted it to start up when you got near it. My bad.
I am sure that if you figured out the wires you can get rid of the ignition switch. I am assuming that is what you want. it can be done

a ghetto way of doing it would be welding the key to the ignition, haha. but really if u are to do this make sure u change ur security number so people cant override the fob

I have the proximity type security system on my softail and it sucks. If the battery in the fob goes bad you stop. If the fob is close to a cell phone you stop. If there is some sort of radio interference you may stop. I would much rather have the button type to engage or disengage the system.

Sounds like you have a lemon there. I have had mine for two years now and so far it is perfect. I really like it a lot, but then I am getting lazy in my old age..........
