2006 883R or 2006 1200R?

2006 883R or 2006 1200R?
I love the look of the 883R. But I don't like the tank graphics or the way the engine looks on the 1200R. I know the 1200R has diffrent drive ratios, hotter cam, increased compression ratio, and larger bore and has atachometer (both should have that last one).
I'm not a chrome guy. I'm 21, tall (6'1"), and not fat (175 lbs.). I love old bobbers but I would like a new harley that I can afford and would really use. I don't like saddle bags, windshields, chrome or passengers.
The local dealership has 4 1200Rs and 3 883R's. The orange 883R has a price tag of 7985 plus tax. Not bad if you ask me. What do you think?
Pay now or pay later for the performance is part of the question. If I got the 883R i'd defintley play around with the motor after the warrenty is up.
Looks wise, 883R has it. Performance 1200R has it. Price and looks is the bottom line.
What do you guys think?
Btw, the only other bikes I've had is a 80cc honda elite scooter, and a 1983 honda shadow 750cc.

Get the 883R and get the 1200 + kit installed....
1200 Pistons, bore out your Jugs, Thunderstorm Heads and a set of Redshift cams....
Rejet the carb, SEAC and a set of SE II's and you will have a ripper from jump, and it is still titled and insured as a MidWeight Bike, vice a Heavy.....
Saves a bit of $$$ on insurance, and you can torture a few stock 1200's as well....

I agree..If you like the 883R, go with that one. If the dealer does your mods with HD parts, I believe you won't forfeit your warranty and would still qualify to purchase the extened warranty as well.

I want to get the conversion done also but the 2 Harley places near me tell me that wether they or someone else does it, it will void my warranty.

Go ahead and get the 1200 R. The "1200" conversion is already there, and when and if you wreck it, you get a 1200 as a replacement through your insurance. Yes, you will get a little break on your insurance if you go with an 883, BUT the insurance company isnt going to pay for a new 1200 conversion if you wreck the bike.
Get the 1200....

You need to find another dealer.....
We do it to a select few 883's, and people love them.....
Rip a 1200 they do, easily....
And it is a standard 1200 conversion.... all HD, so no warrenty issues....

Get what you want - if it's an 883 - so be it - likewise with a 1200. Just don't get talked into a Dyna or something because the salesman is trying to convince you, "You're gonna wanna trade-up anyway in a year or so." lol

My dealer did my 1200 Conv and did not void my warranty. Now that I've put Stage II heads in it might be a different story. [:@]
If you get hit on a converted 883/1200, the other person's insurance is required to idemnify you (ie - put you back in the same condition as you were prior to the loss) therefore, they'd either pay to put the 1200 motor in it, or if it's totalled they'd pay for the value of a 883 converted to 1200 in your market.
If you biff and it ends up going through your own insurance, then they'll pay book value on the 883. Check your policy though, many will also cover $1000 in accesories for example. You can usually take out an additional endorsement for the additional customization and then it would be 100% covered.
Good luck on which ever you choose.

Thanks for the info on dealers doing the conversion and not voiding the warranty. I will definately check some other dealers out.
One last question, if I get the NRHS 1250 kit and have the dealer install it do you think that would void the warranty since it's not really HD parts?
