Default I got a couple questions regarding my '03 sportster

Hey all, I have had my bike for about a month now, and it has a K&N teardrop air filter on it. It also has some kind of another filter under it and i am not sure what it is. I have a couple of pics of it and hopefully someone can help me out. Anyways on to the questions.

1) I would like to know what kind of filter this is and
2) there seems to be some kind of fluid that comes out of it after riding it.

any help would be appreciated.
thanks in advance

Not sure what kind of filter it is, but it is for the breather bolts because that air cleaner does not have the feeds to go into the carb the way the stock air cleaner does.

well i am asking because i need to get a new one, it came apart and as you can see i used some zip ties to keep the filter together until i find out what i need to get or where to get it. Like i said also, i think some kind of fluid is coming out of it also. Not a lot just some splatter on my bike after riding it.

That looks like a generic in line filter. It is probably there to catch oil blowback from the carb. I have picked those up at the local indy dealer here for a couple of bucks.

Yep, it looks like a K&N filter & breather kit to me. http://www.knfilters.com/harley_custom.htm
The fluid coming out is oil. You may have to much oil in the engine which is causing blow-by, (excess oil coming out the filter/breather).

Ok, I think i found what i am looking for. It is a crankcase breather filter with dual inlet.
Here are a couple of places that have em. Now i would like to know some places that you guys trust to order parts from.

These were just to show what i am looking for.

Any indy shop or dealer should have a new breather. I ordered my new grips from that first link you posted, KC International, and everything went just fine. Also, yes, I think I've seen just the breather even in an Autozone/Advance Auto. Hope that helps.

You have to buy a complete unit, it's just a universal breather element, it's not suppose to come apart, it's glued together when new.
The oil is just a little engine oil, if it ever gets bad a leaking which it probably will someday, just remove the breathe and vent the hose to the ground and forget it. I always vent the older bikes to the ground, then you never have to worry about oil puking all over the top of the engine.
