If Your going to take a friend, go with a Big Wide Glide. She has room for friends and won't take a back seat to anything. Other than a V rod or 1200 Custom sporty. Nothing will take a sporty for FUN.
I have a 2004 C 1200 sporty , with use of 2 [ yup] 2 wide glides, both 04s. One a Dress wheel and the other a Chopper type.
Both see my tail lights when I get real stupid. Light to light or in the twisties.
Ride or rent both then buy what you like the best.
Ride free and Safe

Had the same dilemma deciding between a Dyna and Sportster. I decided to go for the 1200C for the one reason that I would not be riding two up. I liked them both but I knew the Sportster would provide me with the looks and performance I was looking for. Because I was not planning on riding two up, I decided to save the extra coin and drop it in options on the Sporty. I know the Sportster can handle 2 people just fine but it seems cramped, not like the Dyna is all that much more roomy. I plan on getting a Road King in the next year or so to sit next to the Sportster just for the 2 up jobs.

I had an 03 Superglide and I think it was overpriced compared to the new 1200 Sportsters for what you get. There just wasn't much difference other than higher maintenance on the Dyna and much less chrome. The Sportster Custom is just a more fun and agile ride, just as powerful (stage 1) with tons of chrome and the difference in length was only about 1/2 inch so the ride quality and passenger room was comparable. Now the redesigned 06 Dyna's may be a different story. The best deal for you may be to find a slightly used 1200C and save a TON of money and enjoy. After owning my 1200C I have no desire to go back to a big twin. It does everything well.

I have a Dyna WideGlide and it has a different feel to it, but the physical size isn't all that much more than that of my 1200C.
In fact, my WideGlide only has a puny 65" wheelbase, while my 1200C has a wheelbase of 70". [sm=biker.gif]
