Default 07 Sportster tank swap

Hello men, and ladies, I need to replace my tank on my 07 Sportster. I was told by the dealer that it had to be done there. I would just like to verify this before I take it there and pay out the @$$ to get it done there. I apologize if this has already been posted, as I am a newbie to this site.
Thank you all

Why does it have to be done at the dealer?

Why do you "need" to replace your tank?

Well I need to replace it becasue originally it had a small dent from being dropped, prior to my self owning it and then by buddy borrowed it and seriously dented the tank even more so it has to be replaced, it looks terrible and I dont want it to get worse and leak. Thankfully he was okay and no serious damage to the bike was done. Anyway the dealer said becasue it was fuel injected that it needed to be done at the dealer somethign to do with codes I thought he said. I was just curious if anyone had any insight on it thats all.
Thanks guys!!!

there is no reason the dealer has to do it. make sure you have the service manual for your year bike and have at it.

PS. Ebay is your friend.

The only reason it would have to be done at the dealer is if it was covered under warrenty and it was gonna be done for free, other than that it is REAL easy to do yourself.

I pulled the tank off my '07 to wire the garage door opener. The fuel line is under a little bit of pressure being EFI, grab the snap ring with a towel, or your girlfriend's shirt and pull the ring down. The fuel line pops right off. Don't forget to use loctite on the 2 mounting bolts when you reassemble. Easy job.

Newer tanks are a lot easier than most of the older ones ...
