I'm getting stationed in Italy!!!

Aviano is a beautiful place. I flew through a couple of times. I was stationed on the other end of the peninsula, San Vito AS (Brindisi), for three years.
I'm not sure about northern Italy, but SECURE everything you own. We were burgled once, had the car vandalized three times, and a bike I sold to another airman was stolen and burned.
Otherwise, have a great tour. You'll be in a place where great road trips are right around the next curve or through the next mountain pass.
I am envious.

Ducs are expensive there, too. But, something about riding one there....
Last summer, I worked in Rome for three months and rented Ducs almost every weekend. Once you get out of the city, the twisties up in Umbria were unreal! But, yeah, it is like riding in a video game: crap constantly coming at you from all sides. You get used to it.
Enjoy!

BTW, there is a small but cool Harley scene in Italy.
In Rome, they meet at the Hard Rock Cafe on the Via Veneto on Tuesdays (it's by the American Embassy/fortress). Cool guys! Most ride Sportsters and V-Rods over there.
They told me that there are bike nights in many cities in Italy. (An Italian "bike night" is a little different, tho... )
Aviano is close to Venice and Padua. They might have a scene. For sure Milan. You might also try Innsbruck, which is closer than you think, and a helluva ride.
