Default air cleaner scoop?

so im currently using a k&N air cleaner with my stock cover and back cover...

is it really necessary to remove the back cover with the air scoop for higher air flow?

i have the same air filter with a V&H fuelpak and V&H slip-ons. I took the back plate off to increase flow and am getting a lot of decel popping. I had the bike dyno tested this weekend and the tech said it looked pretty lean for having the fuelpak and high flow air filter. I am thinking about putting the back plate back on and seeing if that wont help balance it out.

All in all its not hard to take off/put on. take it off and try it, if you get more popping try putting it back on.

my $.02

Yes with the stock air cleaner, you're only going to get the same air that will flow through that scoop. Not much benefit gained from the K&N filter element that way.

if you have the fuel pack that is what it is for leave the back plate off and adjust the fuelpack to richen the bike up the dyno guy should have known that. That is the reason to take the back plate off and put in a tuner like the fuelpac and pipes to open the bike up get more air and run right. If you spent the money on the fuel pac you should use it.

+1, what kind of a dyno guy tells you "It looks pretty lean"?
