Default grease zerk for steering head bearings

My Brothers 2000 1200-C came with a zerk in the neck for the steering head bearings. Is there a reason I cant put one in my 06 1200-C? Could it be a problem with the fork lock set up?...Thanks.

Wondered this too. My Fatboy has it but the 05 1200c does not. Wonder if this is part of my bobble problem at 45 when I lightly touch the bars.

Can't image why. If theres any greese in there it should last a long time.

Think of a wheel bearing and how man revolutions it goes through....sterring is just back and forth....
i've got an old nighthawk and its 24 + years no streering issues with bearings...

but who knows?

grease will harden over time (many years = time).

sure it would be possible to install a zerk, yet a cleaning and repacking of the bearing every (guess) 10 years or 20K mileage might be better. To install the zerk I would imagine one drills upper and lower holes into the steering head, which would require removing the triple clamps.

I think a 10 year clean and repack is a better option. You could change the fork oil at that time too.
