2006 Sportster triple tree removal. HELP!
I just ordered 2-piece racing clip-on bars for my 06. I need to remove the upper triple tree. What's involved? A tech at HD told me I have to have the bike on a jack to support the front end with the pressure it has on it, but how would that be if the lower tree is still intact? I also am aware there are bearings and a rod that connect both trees for steering purposes. The tech also told me to count the turns it takes to loosen the gooseneck bolt so when I tighten it I can get it back to normal positioning. Trying to do this by the weekend. I am in dire need of help. I work on cars but am not certain I can handle this alone. Any info would be awesome. Thanks!

ok here is a shot
keep front tire on ground, but bike should be held up right by frame
dont get me wrong this process is not for checking head bearings!!
on top tree loosen the two pinch bolts (at forks)
then loosen pinch bolt at tree neck
then remove that BIG center bolt
then slide upper trees off
the lower tree has the big pin in it that stay right where its at
you should measure the tubes sticking out of upper trees before removal
when putting together do a reversal of steps
but that BIG bolt plays a part here that whats takes slack out of neck bearings
any ? give a shout
