Cover falls off, bad clips '06 883 custom
Forgive my not knowing the parts the cover protects, but after the cover(under left knee-over plugs?) fell off twice, went to dealer for fix and was told 'these fly off sportsters ALL the time.' Repaired with two new plastic clips for $2. That was last weekend, today, the cover fell off on the highway, and was promptly run over by three different cars. Now I am going to be hit up for the $50 deductible on my extended warranty.
What the hell do they expect from plastic pressure clips? This is crap construction choice. What recourse do I have knowing that the part is not going to be any more secure when the replace it with a new part and the same plastic clips. Oh, and the other 'best' option the mechanic offered was to secure the part with plastic ties...which I would have to cut off if I needed access. Not happy with this small but annoying problem.
Thoughts? New rider, Harley lover.

You have to make very sure that you have pressed the covers in correctly or the crappy little plastic clips will not be able to get a grip on the little holes in the covers. The plastic covered wire ties that come on bags of bread and the like are a temporary fix at best. Welcome to the world of quality a la Harley Davidson! SPORTSTERS RULE!!!!

Zip Tie, or you'll loose another one.
Just drill a hole through the plastic clip large enough for the zip tie to drop down into. But small enough that the head of the zip tie will not. Then if you need to get to the battery or fuse panel, you just pull out the zip tie. Don't have to cut it off.
