Default Question about Iron (1200kit) vs Street Bob

As some of you know I was in a pretty bad wreck in june, but this whole time I have been planning on different bikes and went to look. I just can't decide though.

The one half of me wants to get an Iron and do everything I want to it. Apes, Exhaust, etc. Basically anything I want I can do.

The other half of me wants to go to the Street Bob since they went back to black covers this year. I have always loved that bike, it's been my favorite I think too. I had a nightster before and loved it, but at times the miles and bumps bothered me, and I wanted the bigger bike.

After this break in riding, I can't decide if I want to go to the street bob or iron.

The big thing for me is the gas mileage, that's the only thing I didn't really like about the nightster was that at 100 miles I would need to find a gas station.

What mileage do you have before needing fuel on the Street Bob? How much would the Iron get with the 1200 kit and Exhaust, stage 1, etc.?

I also loved that the sportster was controllable and light, how is the street bob comparable? Is the ride that much better on the dyna?

I know you are going to say to test ride for myself, but I can't even put weight on my leg, I'm just looking for opinions and some facts. I fully plan to test ride when I can, but this will most likely be early next spring.

I know some here have 1200 kit Irons and street bobs so help is appreciated.

I tell ya what man, go to the dealership and tell them you want to test ride the street bob and the sportster. Don't be scared. You're the one spending the money, not them. It's your right. Don't listen to our thoughts and opinions. Go ride them both and you decide.

I know what the iron will ride like, I had the nightster, they are pretty much identical.

I was more or less asking what the fuel milage on the iron with a 1200 kit is, and what the milage on a street bob is.

I wanted to hear opinions on both, it's not whether I will do what someone says or not is not in jeporady, I just want to hear what people's personal thoughts are.

I can't speak specifically for the SB, but I have a Super Glide and the handling is VERY controllable. About 100 pounds heavier than a nightster, so it isn't as light but it handles just fine. Also, the fuel capacity is about a gallon more in the dynas, so figure on filling up less frequently on the dyna.

Good luck on your recovery!

I have a converted iron. It gets about 75-80 miles on a tank in town and 95 on the open road. Runs great and the lower gearing for the 883 motor makes it accelerate hard. I looked at the bob as well. Personally I fit better on a sporty. It's a tough call though, good luck.
