It is a service bulletin that is for the the ignition control module (ICM). HD issued the above service bulleting that adjusts the pulses to the speedometer/odometer and adjusts the curve to aid in better cold starting, hiccups, etc. No parts are needed, just a reflash of the ICM's memory. It only applies to rubber mounts made PRIOR to mid September 2004, so basically a 2004/2005 Sporty. You can check to see if your bike is one of these by taking the seat off and see what number is on the ICM. If it ends with 04 or 05A, you already have the current flash (the A is the clue here if there is no A, you need it).

Apparently it isn't a recall, just a service bulletin so many Sporty owners have had difficulties getting their service departments to do this. Service dept. keep challenging by saying there is no safety recall, but it isn't a safety recall. Or they say it is just for big vwins. I can provide an excerpt from the bulletin but didn't want to take up too much room.

Anyone heard of this on this board? Done this?

I will have to tell my son to look at his when I get home this afternoon. He got it the last of March. He has not said anything about any hiccups and the times we have been riding I don't think I every heard it do this. Thanks for the info.

That's why I am putting the question out there. I came across it on the internet...I spend alot of time on the internet - part of my unofficial job at the moment. It was at a Sportster site...and it was buried in the archives from like January of this year.

I do not believe everything I see or read on the internet and that is why I am asking about it on this site -- alot of knowledgeable individuals here!

My son took the seat off his yesterday afternoon when I got home and according to the number you gave his already has the current flash now I can not remember if it ended in a 04 or 05A. Its 3:30 in the morning I had to come in 4 hrs early at work today so my brain[sm=sleeping.gif] is not warmed up yet. But his will hiccup, pop back thru the carb sometimes only when you give it a little throttle. He had em put SEII mufflers on when he got it and Stage I so something ain't quite right but it runs strong. He's probably got 800+ miles on it now. We have not looked at it yet might be something that just needs tightened up.

yes, it is for all carb equipped H-Ds. I had mine done a month ago. It corrected the speedo. No noticible difference in the motor.

What did it correct with the speedo? My bike also has "the hiccup" that you are talking about. I tried adjusting th idle a little but it still does right when you start to give it a little gas. Any suggestions on that? I haven's checked my numbers yet to see if mine needs flashed or not.

The speedo was off by about 6 mph at 60 mph. (reading high) The hiccup is caused by slight advanced timing at low RPM. The re-flash corrects the timing issue as well. I didn’t have any problems with that before the re-flash. Other people that have had it done, say they have noticed performance improvement as well as faster warm up.
