Unhappy Clutch Lever Lock Up

Anyone have any idea why the clutch lever on my Sporty locks up in 4th gear ?

Have changed the oil and added the required 32 onces (1 Quart) Ran fine for a week then started doing it again today on the way home from work.

OK, One other way to descibe it is to say it is that you can not pull the clutch lever when your in 4th gear, Speed shift into 5th and after about a 1/4 mile it works again.

I don't know why it would be intermittant, but have you adjusted the clutch cable in a while?

Edit: probably not the issue sinse it works in all other gears...

Default Clutch & Clutch Lever

Which gear the tranny is in shouldn't make one bit of difference in clutch lever pull.

Like bentwrench said, the clutch is it's own independent unit and lever pull will not be related to what gear your in. Take the clutch cover off, and readjust the cable. also watch the linkage arm where to cable connects to make sure it's not hitting the outer primary case. But a proper readjustment of the cable from scratch will hopefully solve your problem. Also check your primary oil level while you got the cover off, with the bike standing upright, the fluid level should just touch or be a hair under the clutch diaphram spring, if it's higher.....you'll get some clutch issues from drag, although even that shouldn't really affect clutch pull.

Problem found and solved: A broken lutch spring.

As to why it was only locking up in 4th I have no idea.
