RE: warrentee
I just finished my 1000 mile service today. After reading ALOT of info about the warranty, I decided to do my own. Why pay the stealer if you are mechanicaly enclined and have the tools to do the work.
Like joetst2 mentioned keep your records and receipts. I circled each of the X's in the owners manual as I completed each maintenance per the 1K mile service, just to make sure I didn't forget or miss anything. Don't just change the oil and call it good. Go over your bike per the manual this way you also get familiar with it as well. I also took a picture of my mileage with my digital camera to print off a picture to keep with my records as well.

Even if you don't have the delaer do the service, you might still want to consider having a shop do the work for this one. They are doing more than the oil change for the first service. A lot of adjustments happening there that you aren't getting done. If you can't afford to have them do it now, I'd consider waiting until you can. Put the money for the oil change toward the service. That little bit spent now will save you a lot more later.
Your dealer didn't give you anything when you bought the bike? My local dealer provides a coupon for 1000 mile service with every bike purchase. Service will be free unless you go synthetic - you pay extra for the oil. But that's only $25.

what do you mean they didn't give me anything i haggled the price down to $6700.00 cash i payed it out the door, when got 900 miles on my bike i took it up there and they did the 1000 mile service no charge and that was posted on the board as a 280.00 service i didn't pay, so far i have saved $780.00 so i think they give it to me free. oh ya i got the Black cherry pearl paint. so i really think i'm doing good so far. don't know about you but my dealer is in the habit of keeping customers and not running them off like others. he's doing pretty good the family has 4 Harley dealers around the St Louis area and they all do the most sales out of the other dealers, and they even ran a few out of town.

i had asked when my service was being done if i could be there with my bike while the tech did the service and they said sure. and that was cool i like doing that had asked about alot of things and if he could show me how it's down and he even let me see how it's down. and there was alot of things to be down on the 1000mile service that i would not have thought of doing on my own. glad i got to do that. i beleave i could maybe do it myself next time. oh ya wish i could get one of thoughs service tables they put the bike up on there awesome when to work on the bike and not have to lay down on the ground. i think i might look into one of them for my garage.
