Question tires. again.

these dunlops are getting into my pocket. this is my second rear for this season. its time to look at other options.

i need to know what you folks are running and what kinda mileage you're getting out of them. i can't keep swapping this damned back tire every couple of months. i do two 1,000 mile weekends every month. and i commute. i don't do burnouts. i do enjoy twisties. i get caught in the rain a lot.

i don't like the stock tire size i think skinnies would offer better performance. but if i can get longer use i'd consider a big fat truck tire.

I got 10K out of my 1st two rear Dunlops. Switched to Meztler 880's for the 3rd rear and it went 15,500. My 4th rear tire, another Metz 880 has 11,000 on it and looks like it will go at least another 5K which would be 16,000 miles.

They're a little more money than the Dunlop, but that's more than offset by the 50% increase in mileage and fewer tire changes. They also handled alot better on tar snakes, bridge grating, and wet roads than the Dunlops did.

i have a dyna and i have never gotten 10k out of a tire ever best i ever got was 8k. I have an 07 and i have put like 7 tires on this thing on the rear. I know what you mean gets expensive.

I don't do burn outs and keep my psi about 2lbs above what is recommended on the last two tires which has gotten me closer to the 8k range on those.

Now that being said i think what gets me is all of the hard take offs not burn outs but getting on it from light to light your loosing tread each time but its fun and sounds good.

Meztler 880. I got 16,000 miles on the first Metz rear tire. 17,000 on the second one. The third one has approx 10,000 miles and is still good to go. Got 28,000 miles on my first Metz 880 front tire.

I agree... I have a Fatboy and about ready for my 4th rear of the Dunlop 407's nice tire but an advantage of 6500 on them sucks... Think I'm going to try the Metz

can anyone tell me why i wouldn't go with 130/90 on the rear (instead of 150/80)? the tire-size charts say the difference is about 1/2 inch at the rim and 1 inch overall. surely its a few pounds lighter.

I talked to a metzler tech .I only got 7000 miles out of the rear 880 before cord started to show..They suggested I go up in size(wider) not down I have been running a 150/80/16 It wont be to long till I get to try the 160/80/16 lol .Give them a call and talk to a tech .Like you my bike also eats tires.

well im gonna try the metz 880s in stock sizes. i wanted to go to a skinnier tire but i couldn't find anything that gave me a warm-fuzzy feeling (most were not suited for heavy-*** sportsters).

i'm gonna try dyna beads this time too. i feel kinda dumb buying those things but if they work it'll save me a lot of time in rebalancing.
