Default VOES not working, what to do?

97 sportster 883/1250, SE 1200 ignition, SE air assy, SE bolt in cams, Mikuni
HSR42 carb (new), strt. pipes with baffles.

I tested the VOES with hand vac. pump, also tested while VOES was connected
to bike. VOES does not close, seems to be stuck in open position.
Engine runs OK, but seems to ping when I open the throttle quickly while in
higher gears.

I don't know how long VOES has been innoperative, but how long do I dare
ride the bike with the VOES in stuck open position?

Local Harley dealer doesn't have one in stock, Sturgis is this week and 300 miles away.

What to do? HELP !

You should call HeadQuarters and get one of there ignitions for the Sportster, it eliminates the voes and is adjustable. I have one in Sporster and it has work perfect for about 6 years, (my bike has 10.75 compression), never pinged once in all that time.
