Friend borrowed bike & ran it out of gas!
I know I know... never let someone borrow your bike. Anyway I did.... and he ran my tank completely out of gas even the reserve! I just bought this bike and it sat for over a year before this. The first two tanks I put a little sea foam in it. I went out for a ride last night ( after the tank was filled from this idiot ) and it died on me three times. Not at stops, but in mid ride.... third gear. The final time I couldn't get it started to get it home. So I'm guessing there is some sludge in the line???? Or in the carb???? Anyone have this happen, or have suggestions as to how to fix this!?!?! Thanks...

gas
Guess that is about the easiest lesson anyone has learned about loanng your bike out. Do you have an inline filter? if he ran it dry, it may be clogged with debris that usually dont get sucked in. Check that first, be ready on the shut off valve, fill the tank, disconect the hose where it enters the carb, make sure gas is flowing there, if so, reconnect and take the screw out of the bottom of the bowl (have a coffee can ready to catch the gas, and be ready on the shut off) May as well take the bowl off and clean it out regardless. Let us know what you find. The pic below is from an older XL1200 but should be helpfull:

Honestly, he probably did you a favor in terms of uncovering a problem before it left you stuck in BFE. Whatever trash was laying in the tank was a problem waiting to happen and now you have the opportunity to correct it. Clean the tank, carb and filter.
Now, running an EFI bike dry is a different story.
