hello everyone i am looking into getting a sportster and had a couple questions. Iv been wanting to switch over from the crotch rocket scene.

i am only about 5'6 180lb am i to small for a sportster? =(

what years would you guys recommend?

what size would you guys recommend?

If i am big enough for a sportster wil i be able to ride with ape hangers? i love the look of a sportster with ape hangers. and im wishing i would be able to ride comfortably with maybe a set of 12in apes.

Dude I am 5,5 145lbs and I am plenty big enough for my sporty. I recommend anything over the 07. That is when they came out with efi. Some guys will disagree with me on that one. It is your preference if you want carb. or efi. Either way, you definitely want a 1200. Alot of us have the Nightster, personally, I do not want to ride another sportster. I love the N. Apes look good and are comfortable, but you lose some stability. Good luck

Money will help you with that decision.

Coming from crotch rockets a 1200 would be good. That said, a 883 is a very capable bike.

You should be fine with 12 Apes. Even if your not buying from a dealer go to a dealer and use their bikes to size them up.

 

Look for an XL1200L or XL883L. I also suggest an 07 or later. The nightster and Irons are also lower sitting bikes.

As Midnight mentioned, the fuel injection came out in '07. In addition, '04+ have a rubber mounted engine to reduce vibration.

Go to a dealer ask to sit on all the sporty models. Find a dealer were you can go for a test ride some dealers let you test ride some don't. But try and get a test ride. Some dealers rent for around 99 bucks a day try that also. Me I like the 03 the 06 and 07up for different reasons. If you get a left over 09 by Aug 31 they got a trade up program. Lots of luck
