400# is the max load for a sporty. 2up, no problem. Extra air in rear tire. Owners manual says 35 for single rider, 40 for 2up.

At 400 Lbs. when you hit large bumps you may bottom out, but not be bottomed out the whole time. Look at the progressive shocks for better suspension. I'm looking to get some heavy duty 12.5 inch progressive 412s soon.

thanks for the replies.

im mostly curious about 2 up, and then perhaps a couple of bags. since the heaviest load will be on the back part/passenger part, wont this give too much stress on the load bearing part/joints?! (or whichever part deals with the weight of the passenger).

for example, nightster, isnt this bike originally designed for solo rider (correct me if im wrong pls). but can be modded to 2 up seat?! then add the extra load, then ride. will this be too harmful for the bike in the long/short run?! obviosuly the bike will not be preserved, but you know what i mean!? just curious guys.

YEs it can be modded for 2 up with a 2 up seat and passenger peg instals. As long as you don't exceed the 400 lbs. You will be "OK". It will bottom out sometimes, but should be "safe". Engineers do calculations, and find a safe weight range that is well under failure.
