how long do dealers keep old(er) models?!
since 2010 models are out, how long do dealers keep selling the 2009 models for!? 2008?! 2007?!
would one still be able to buy brand new older models from dealers!? or once they run out of stock, then toughluck?!
can a buyer requestorder, for example, a 2007 nightster, right now!? brand new?!
i can imagine the pre-owned/enjoyed options.
any info would be appreciated.
thanks in advance.

Typically they aren’t around too long, although there are exceptions. My dealer is already offering deals on the 2009 models to get them moving. I bought the last 2009 Nightster last week. With the bad economy, you might see more “leftovers” this year than in years past.
Harley isn’t usually like GM, Toyota, etc where there are all these leftovers sitting in the showroom at year end. HD is smart in that they really protect their brand’s value by not flooding the market. For example, this year sales are down somewhere around 30%, yet my dealer says they are selling bikes as fast as they come in. That’s because Harley has cut their production by roughly the same 30%. What that does is makes sure there aren’t a whole bunch of 2009 bikes sitting around at the end of the year. If so, the dealer would have to offer some killer deals to push them out like the car dealers. If the dealer is offering big incentives and rebates, then in turn that makes the resale value of our bikes drop.

Yeah, the 2010 models are already hitting the dealerships, I think. It'd be kind of silly for them to build '09 and '10 models side by side. The '09s to be found now are the ones already in the dealerships.

Once a new model year is introduced, they don't manufacture previous year models. I have heard that 2009 bikes will be available for several months due to the current over inventory situation of the 2009 bike.
I even heard that they were going to delay production on 2010 models in most cases.

Ok, why would they do that? (Keep building 09s when they are building 10s?) I am sure that HD does just like GM does. They quit building 09 models this July, and start building the 10s.
I would guess HD quit building 09s around May or so, and have been building the 10s for about three months already. After all they need to have some inventory when they introduce them, right?
