fuel tap, left or right?

fuel tap, left or right?
Does anybody here know which model year I need to go for where the fuel tap outlet is on the left side of the tank on the old small fuel tanks. I have 2000 sportster with the tap on the left. However I am hardtailing the bike and want the 1990's smaller tank. I have been told that the old tanks had the tap on the left or right. Obviously I want to make sure the location of the tap is the same as on my model 2000.
Can anybody help me identifying which year I should be looking for.
I have seen one for sale with the tap on the right. I think this wont fit but am I wrong and has anybody fit on to a late model sporty.
Thanks for any advice

Yes the small penut tank you have on your 93 is the one I am after. All the examples I have seen have the tap on the right. My 2000 has it on the left so I was worried that switching to the right it wouldnt foul on anything. I guy in a local custom shop told me that the rubber mounts came in in the late 80's early 90's and they could be found with taps on either side. Not sure if this is a red herring but I guess this guy should know. However as long as nothing fouls I guess I can run a tybe into the carb as suggested by another user.
Thank for the advise guys

If you want I'll look on the underside of the tank and see if it looks like it's set up for a tap on the left side......won't be a problem, I'm putting a new thermostat oil dipstick in this afternoon any way.
Colorado weather sucks right now. Haven't been out riding since Monday morning, the weather's too sketchy to ride to work.
