Default Polishing switch housings?

I thought I read in a thread that someone sanded down their "factory" black switch housings and then just polished them up like suggested for the lower legs... Using diffrent grit types and then moving to a polishing compound...

Has anyone done this? I assume they are aluminum and that's why this will work? Can anyone confirm or has anyone done this themselves? I have looked and can not find the post to save my life!

Thanks,
J

Seems to me like it would work, but would kinda be a pain. Just get some chrome ones, they are not very expensive.

It would definitely be easier but, I'm a little low on funds and I actually don't want them all blinged out... I'm actually hopeing to look like the front forks and heads that are not chrome but the polished aluminum.

Thanks,
Jason

I "think" they are cast metal of some sort and wouldn't "polish" to a shine at all.

Hmmmm.... I agree with ya that it seems like it would be something cheap, hell I figured they were plastic!

I may just try to find some cheap chrome one's and take the scotch brite to em'.

Thanks,

Phat, I just walked out and took a look at mine. One of them has a scratch "gouge" on the bottom of it. It looks like they are black all the way through. It was a lighter black but black none the less.

they polish up great! i have done a few sets and then used accrilic clear over them... you can strip them with reg air craft stripper or gasket remover then go to town

they are metal to ground the electrics, they can be polished and dont look half bad if done well

JRK has the right idea

then again its REALLY not hard to swap the chrome ones, about as difficult as removing the old ones anyway, which is 3 or 4 screws and a torx bolt all in easy access

They prolly are right Phat. The light black I'm looking at right now could be oxidation?
