All you guys are the $hiz-nit!!!

Thanks JRK, I was planning on getting the aircraft stripper from Wally World (wal-mart) you guys were talking about to strip the clear off the lowers, I wouldn't have thought about using it on the housings too. Bet you just saved me some time sanding! I'll try to get some pics, planning to do this tomorrow.

Later,

How much of a PITA is it to take off the upper part of the heads? I was thinking of taking them off to polish but hadn't ventured to look thinking it's not going to be worth the effort.

I took off the rocker boxes over the winter and cleaned them a bit. In order to take them off, you need to remove the gas tank, coil, etc.

They did clean up, but not to a chrome-like finish the way the fork sliders did. Sorry but I don't have any pics. My computer crashed twice over the past week and the photos were (are) on it.

I have a 95 XL1200 and they are aluminum. The paint is tuff so you need a good paint remover. Buff on a wheel and they'll look just like chrome. keep the shine with Mothers Mag and Aluminum polish. Great stuff!

thanks JRK... man I got me a nice shady spot Saturday morning and then that damn sun came up over the house and I like to had a damn heat stroke out there polishing on the lowers.

I figure in a a few weeks I'll forget how bad it wore me out and do the rocker boxes and I'm still thinking about the switch housings too. Thanks for the help bro!
