Long Trips???

RE: Long Trips???
I bought my 05 1200 C 1700 miles from home. Bringing it back I had two 10 hour days.
Quite a few years ago I read an article about an old lady (I believe she was in her 80's) who did the four corners of the United States on a Honda 400 cc Helix (scooter).
It's not a question of the bike but rather the person.

RE: Long Trips???
xlxs,
Yup! whaap could not have said it better: "It's not a question of the bike but rather the person." I remember doing over 1,200 miles round-trip on a Honda 175 and I routinely did 450 miles a weekend round-trip with my 650 Triumph many years ago.
Some people think if you're going more than 100 miles that you need a Road King or a Gold Wing, or a saddle fit for a king (more likely, a queen) and that is absurd.
I have a friend from Australia who came on "holiday" to the States last summer. He came by boat that docked in San Diego. He bought an old 450 Honda twin for $200 and toured the states with it, and nothing else. He stopped to spend some time with me in NJ, and then drove that 450 back to San Diego on the "Northern" route and made $50.00 on the bike when he sold it for $250.00 when he got back to San Diego! He had saddle bags and his version of a T-bag on it. He put a grand total of nearly 11,000 miles on that 450 in less than 9 weeks while he was here and he had a ball!
"I guess I want to know, 883 good for a 400 mile highway trip?" You'll be riding in style compared to that old Honda 450 twin! Don't ever short-change the 883, it's a REAL motorcycle - with muscle to-boot!
Good luck, keep the shiny side up, and have a blast!

RE: Long Trips???
Im 6/4 weigh about 230 and on a pretty weekend I will ride my 2001 883 Hugger 400 to 600 miles easy. mustang touring seat and engine guard highway pegs with stage one is the only mods and I wouldnt give a ten hour a day trip a second thought on this bike. The sporty is by no means a little bike and saying it is would be like saying the Empire state building is small because someone built a bigger or taller one ! I still wouldnt jump from it . In short if your up to the trip your bike is all day long.
