Well the bike only has around 55hp at 6000rpm and it has to carry around 804 lbs at least. That's about 14.6 lbs per hp and im not even factoring in the wind resistance which grows exponencially according to speed. All im saying is that the Sportster ain't no sportscar.
I hit 90+ while eating a new GTO up since he had to pull up and rev his engine like a mad man5'10" 175-80lbs.
Not sure if you are serious about 'eating a new GTO' or just kidding around, as the newer GTO's are very quick.

The last I heard, the 883 Sportster's ran quarter mile times in the mid 14 second range, while road test performed on the GTO's show quarter mile times of high 12 to low 13 seconds.

Here is a recent Motor Trend road test which included a 2006 GTO;

"The GTO outgunned the SRT8 from 0 to 60 (4.7 seconds versus 5.0), 0 to 100 (11.7 versus 11.9), and in the quarter mile (13.3 seconds at 105.9 mph versus 13.5 at 106.3). Chalk it up to a better weight-to-power ratio (9.4 pounds/horsepower versus 10.0) and, at least for the 0-to-60 blast, the advantage of launching with a manual transmission."

Something isn't right there. I reguarly ride 80 mph when I'm on the interstate slab. I've had my 06 883L up to just a click or two over 110. There was still some bike left (I suspect not much) but I ran outta ***** at that point. I did that on a race track, but I have had it up to just a tad over 100 on the interstate, with police escort involved.
