possible new owner question.
Hi everyone. I currently own a honda cbr 1000rr but my fiance just got done with treatments for a rare bone cancer in her pelvis and is no longer comfortable on my bike. I was curious if a nightster is very comfortable two up. I'm not talking like two hundred miles at a crack but more like 60-80 then stopping for a break. I'm really not into the big bagger type bikes besides the fact that we cant really afford to be spending upwards of 13 grand right now and i love the look of the nightster especially with some drag or Z bars on it. I am just worried about her comfort level. I figured I would get a detachable back seat of some sort and a back rest to throw on when she wants to go but then be able to remove it so the bike looks the way i want. Any input from people who ride two up on theirs would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for any and all input.

I just got my detachable sissy bar put on my '01 sportster, thinkin me and my girl could go ridin together... she said it was really painful. Given it is a solid mount engine with the stock **** poor excuse for a seat. (it looks like she is sitting on the fender). But I hear if you get a good 2up seat its a lot nicer for the passenger. Anyways, I would see if you can't test it 2up at a dealership to see if shes ok on it.

I am sure that the riding position would be more comfortable for her. BUT, the sportser is not a bike that is well suited to long-distance 2up comfort. Alot of folks do it, and I am not saying that it cannot be done, but it does require some mods (new seat, sissy bar, probably some beefer up suspension). But depending on the level of pain she is experiencing, it is tought to say if she would find it comfortable. I literally get bounced out of the saddle sometimes on my sportster (not a nightster, but really no major diffrences). Do what AX7 suggested, see if someone will let you do a 2up test ride. If the sporty dosent work you can definatly get something bigger that may be more suited to your needs for the price of a new 1200N.

I've got a nice HD passenger pillion on mine and we've gone 2up lots for under 100 miles and it's not bad at all. You do have to tighten up the suspension a little or else she'll hurt, but with the right seat and maybe a suspension mod, I think she'll be fine. My wife's about 200lbs and once I fixed the suspension, she doesn't complain anymore.
