the guy Im going through (its a 1 man military thing, so he gets all the good news quick) says theres not going to be much at all. almost nothing. I know he told me to get my order in a few months before 2010 so i can get a model w/o the security feature. Im going to order it in october

All of the new 2010 models will be on the HD website by noon on Saturday, July 25th. They will start arriving in showrooms shortly afterward.

is there anything wrong with the factory security or it's not cost effective for ya?

its just not cost effective. IMO, its pointless.
The security pretty much consists of a special key you carry with you (I dont think its the ignition key, just a sensor thing) and if your more then 5 feet away from the bike, it wont start.

Why is this useless?
1. If your bike is stolen, odds are they arent going to just hotwire it and haul off.
2. If Im paying full coverage on a bike, comprehensive is in there, bike gets stolen, I get money.
3. what happens if you lose that little sensor, you're screwed ATM.
4. With this system installed, you just added more wires and **** to sort through if you add any electronic goodies.
this system costs ~$332 IIRC. Waay to much for something like this.

Not to mention, I've heard of several of the security systems on the Sporty that don't function properly, and they end up draining the battery.

My bike came with one, not by choice. I agree it is worthless.

Also heard that when the battery in the FOB goes bad it won't start or if it was running the engine will die.

if 2010 bikes are coming out in 09, i think the bigger problem is the rate of this increase in bikes model years and their release date.

im more worried about seeing 2025 harleys in 2013!

The FOB is a sensor thingy that you need to start the bike... or... you can use the turn signals to enter the secret code. Easy.
