Thanks Voony, I just picked up a piece of 16g steel, cut it to a shape I thought worked, did some shaping with a rubber mallet and various pieces of pipe. Welded a tab on the bottom and the back to make use of the stock mounts. I used a piece of a camping mat shaped with a grinder with a flap wheel for the pad. Some spray adhesive to hold the foam and the pleather. It took about 2 1/2 hours.

I've been a lurker for 4 months and joined today. Bought my bike from recovering meth addict (2000$) that took it apart and had no idea how to put it together. Put 700$ into it and this is what you get. 16" ape hangers off ebay that taper down(60$),drag pipes off ebay (60$), 16" burly kit (200$), wires are inside the handlebars, 16" rear shinko whitewall and Metzeler front 21" (220$ shipped), had to replace rear rim (60$), bought a box of parts off a guy on craigslist that did a weld on hard tail for 100$ and he had the struts, rear fenders, new oil tank and a bunch of miscellanous parts that would of nickel and dimed me to death. so for 2700$ here is a 2003 883 sportster with 10k miles. Im moving (getting stationed) in Hawaii in 2 weeks so it came as a blessing to beat traffic on Oahu.
how I got it minus the handlebars of course
2 weeks ago before I mounted the front turn signals on forks and ran wiring inside bars.
