Default crank sensor question

hey all.i did a search and found a lot on this topic, but i have a couple questions that i did not find an answer to.btw,it's an '06 1200 C.

if the crank sensor is bad will the check engine light come on?this one does not have the light on but almost all of the symptoms are the same as a failing ignition.i.e.,popping,loading up,backfiring, barely idling, and sounding basically like pure smashed ***.was working on my neighbor's '97 sporty and it was the ignition pick-up(cam sensor)

even though when i do a diagnostic check it says "none" for codes, but gives a part # of 32883-046...what does this mean?

i've worked on a few friends' bikes, but i am a little unfamiliar with this ignition system.

any help is greatly appreciated

edit:i just had the carb rejetted and replaced the intake seals

The CPS will almost always throw a 373 or 374 code if its the problem and the motor runs at all.

Did this start AFTER you rejetted and changed the seals?

yes,it did,but not nearly as bad.the CEL stays on for about 5 to 10 seconds after starting...and you have to twist the throttle everytime to start it.

the owner moved from Pa. to here and had the carb rejetted and now it runs pig rich. (i forgot to mention it has SE a/c and CS tapered slip-ons w/o baffles) i didn't do the jetting.the owner of the bike is one of my customers' brothers and he took it somewhere else 1st then to me to fix it...yay me

one thing i noticed is that i can start it in gear w/o pulling in the clutch lever and i can't do that with my '08 i thought all this gen of XL were like mine.

The clutch interlock was added in 07.

You need to find out what jets are in there and I would also suspect you may have a vacuum leak around the manifold gaskets that were replaced (incorrectly?).
