alrighty then...i think i have it. I didnt take a picture of the other hex bolt...i figured if i took a pic of the one you would realize i knew about the other haha. Sorry guys for being so nit picky with looking for information...just didnt want to mess anything up. Thanks again...
Alright guys...dont want to pry pull or brake anything...but I took all those bolts that I had circled in red out...and that head doesnt seem to want to budge Am I missing something here....

Your halfway there, now see the bolt's right nexts to the rocker arm shafts. There are 4 (5/16") of them, loosen them and your good to go

I know this is an old thread, but I found it very useful doing the same repair on an 01 883. Thanks to dsturch1 for the pics and everyone else for the "how to." Another leak has been fixed!!
Read this thread and decided to change my leaking lower rocker box gaskets. Once I removed the lower rocker box plate and installing new gasket, the rocker box plate would not sit back flat to bolt back on. I removed the rocker arms so that it would sit flat and torqued to manual specs. I then removed the 2 bolts that align with the rocker arm shaft. I have rotated the engine so the push rods are in the lowest position but they are still holding the rocker arm slightly to high to slide the shaft through. I read on 1986 models you must run a wire through the push rod to release pressure on the tappet by pressing on a check valve. I'm working on a 2000 883. I need advise.
