Default lowering question

2007 1200 Custom
I need to lower the wife's bike a bit. She can get flat footed but looks like a little bit of a stretch. I think lowering about an inch would work good. I'll probably get some lower shocks thru JP or something for the back but my question is about the front. Do I need to get lower springs to go in the tubes or can I just slide the tubes up in the trees a bit as I've heard of doing this before. Can anyone with info on this issue let me know from your experience.
Thanx

Most people say only move the tubes .5 to .75 inches up, that is still safe, and in order to save cash is what I would do.

I wouldn't even do that. My 99 XLH was that way when I got it. Didn't notice it at first. Since it is not really recommended I put it back to oem specs. No noticable difference in how it rides or handles. Just my .02

I lowered my back end with Progressive Shocks (11" shocks on the 883L). Progressive have now come out with a fork lowering kit which will lower the front end 1 - 2". I raised the forks an inch and the dealership put them back down to 1/4" and wouldn't let me ride it home with them raised. I am purchasing the new lowering kit for the front end. It lists for about $130.00.

If your wife isn't to large, those lowering kits for the rear shocks work fine and you can lower the front an 1" by letting the tubes ride up the trees with no problem.
This is how I lowered my wifes 2003 and she has been riding it for years that way with no problems.
