Unhappy Oil!!!!!!!!!

It is true, heaver oil is GREAT for a transmission, IF your transmission is NOT sharing the lube with the motor. Primary/ Clutch have their lube, and engine and tranny has their own separate lube. The BT's have everything separated. NOT the case with the sporty's, at least not the evo. 75w90 would be just fine in the primary, but stick to the 20w50 in the engine, its about as heavy as you can really go, and the tranny wiill still thank you for it.

One more time... The Sporty engine does not share it's oil. The primary/tranny is shared. 75w-90 Gear Oil is NOT HEAVIER that 20w-50 Motor Oil.

Just seems wierd to me that the primary on a sporty only holds 1.2 quarts of fluid. I personally dont see how that is going to effectively lubricate the primary chain slinging it up (off the bottom), clutch pulling it up into the plates, AND a transmission.

The transmission isn't very large. A little oil goes a long way.

Sportsters use a dry sump oiling system. That is the reason for the oil tank.I am not going to even try to explain to you how the system works. If you think the engine and trans share oil you would never get how it works.

OK! I stand corrected. Pulled out the manual, learned my lesson. My bad.

One question about the oiling system tho, does it push the oil back into the oil tank AFTER it's been through the filter, or just randomly?

Is anyone running Royal Purple 75W-90? I have several quarts that I purchased to put in my Jeep before I sold it. Just wondering if anyone has used it or has anything good or bad to say about using it for the trans/primary.
Thanks.
