+1 on the Mobil-1 15w-50 automotive oil. Meets and exceeds all HD specs and ranks right up there with the top (boutique) V-Twin oils. About $26.00 from Walmart for a 5 quart jug.

Talk about getting 'ripped off'......

Just kiddin', but out here in the boondocks we are getting it for right at $21.00 for a 5 quart jug......

The 'regular' Mobil 1 synthetic 15W50 is good stuff, and the synthetic of choice used by most guys I know with high mileage bikes.

UOA's show that it provides all the protection of V-Twin 20W50 at about half the price....

$21.00? Wow. It's been $23.00 here for years but Wally hiked it to $26 about 2 months ago. They did put it on sale a couple of weeks ago for $23 and I picked up 4 jugs (all they had on the shelf).

The $21 was at a WallyWorld in Ft.Scott, KS., a small college town in SE Kansas.....

It's away from the large cities in what you would call a 'low rent' area of the State, so it might be a little cheaper than in other areas. Been a few months since I bought the last supply so they might have jumped the price up as well.

Don't know if I can afford to pay a whole $5.00 for a quart of oil though.

Some of the guys I ride with make fun of us that spend over $4.50 a quart for synthetic, so I follow their advice and start running $2.85 a quart Rotella T in everything.

Yep, agree that Rotella is good stuff, but I'm not giving up syn in these temps. The oil temp gauge tells the story and I'm not going to quibble at ~$5.00 / quart. I also don't believe you're running a 15w-40 in this heat, I know you know better.

Full Synthetic oil is a good choice to matter what brand you get (except Harleys) I use it in all my vehicles right down to my lawn mower!!!

Actually the picture below shows what I run in my Harley's.....

Mobil 1 synthetic 15W50 would work just as well year round, but I got a super deal on a few cases of RedLine 20W60HD synthetic oil, so I'm running it this summer.

Around here it gets hot (last week the temps were between 100 to 105 with a heat index of over 110), so the 60 weight viscosity of the RedLine is welcomed.

RedLine is one of the few top end true synthetic (Ester based Group 5) oils available, and if you check your Owners Manual you will find that even Harley recommends a 60 weight oil when the temperatures are 80 degrees or higher. It's 20 weight on the low end is the same viscosity as a regular 20W50 oil, but it just has a little higher viscosity on the top end.

The RedLine just provides a little additional protection on those extremely hot days.

((You probably already know all of this, but I'm just providing a little information for those that might be interested))...
