Stock bars gotta go

Stock bars gotta go
2008 1200C with stock handlebars. Been riding too long being uncomfortable. Trying to lay back a little puts a strain on shoulder blades and upper back. I ride my brother's 883 with buckhorns and it seems much more comfortable. I would like to go with mini apes pulled back more, and like doing things my self. How many of the wires and cables would have to be changed? I think with the buckhorns all I would have to do is modify the brake line. I have the manual so I could do the work. Anyone have a good source for the cables?

I know a guy who has a 1200L and he put mini apes on his bike. He used the stock cables. All he had to do was straighten out the brake line. It might not be a bad idea to just get a new line. If you want to go cheap you can get drag specialty cables and they are affordable. Just about any length throttle and idle cables are 21.00. I think clutch cables are around 50.00, I think. These are black vinyl mind you. The brake line is the most expensive. You might get away under 150.00. I just ordered a new set of Magnum Chromite cables. I'm getting rid of these tall bars and getting 12 inch bars. I'm also getting rid of the rediculous pull back riser. Good luck to ya.

Like HDXXX, I also changed the bars on my 1200C to bars from a 883/1200L. The only modification needed is to rebend the brake line to gain a little more length (or install a longer one). You may also have to relocate the throttle cables outside the triple tree instead of through it. You may want to look at the Dyna Low bars instead of the 883/1200L bars. They 1" lower and 3" wider than the Sportster Low bars. I think they are more comfortable because they don't bend your wrists inward as much as the Sportster Low bars. Search for posts on this topic - lotta good information.
