Default Gas should go in the tank, not on the tank

So I was filling up, and the pump was a piece of ish, really hard to keep a steady stream going, and really only had a high or off mode. Long story short, made a newbee mistake and got gas on the tank. Can/ will this do damage?

I've accidentally spilled gas on my tank a few times. It has never damaged the paint. I usually just wipe the area down with a damp cloth ASAP after the spill. -Dave.

worse than on your paint is if you overflow, the overflow gas causes the bike to run like sh*t for a few miles- so far i have only done this once-
now i know how many gallons i should need and stop if the auto stop isnt stopping the gas... and then look into the tank to see how much more i need-
gas on the tank isnt good for your wax but it wont hurt clearcoat or paint- just dont use a paper towel to wipe it down... better to ride home to get a clean cloth or best yet, wash it off. then rewax it.

Damn, I'm jealous, your gas station has "damp rags". I am lucky if my local station has paper towels at the pump! The worst part about the spill, IMO, is walking into or back into the store to get some napkins or towels!

Not a newbee mistake. Did this just a few days ago. I dont trust the auto stop so I always look inside the tank...well couldnt see in so I pulled the nozzle out a bit...woops too far. Oh well. I carry a clean micro fiber towel in my sissy bar bag just for these little screw ups.

I keep a nice cotton handkerchief in my back pocket whenever I ride. I use it to clean gas drips (or spills) and to clean bugs off from my sunglasses or face-shield.
