Aiken is a very quaint town, partial to horses. Its rather historic. A great little town but it might be a bit of a switch if you are used to a city of any size. True it is about 1/2 hour drive from Augusta GA, home of the Masters. The summers are F'N hot, even for us natives. Humid as well. This last week has averaged 95-100 degrees. And does not drop below 90 until evening if we are lucky. January will be nice tho, its usually around 50-60 degrees. I am in North Augusta -that is the mid point between Augusta and Aiken.
The funny thing about the south is that you either love it or hate it. I was born in Augusta. Maybe that is why I am not a fan. But my husband is a Mainer, and except for the false southern hospitality and intense heat, he likes it. I think its mostly because he doesn't have to shovel a driveway anymore.
Just remember three words - CENTRAL AIR CONDITIONING!

If you are in Aiken, august first. The have a good car an bike show here. About 15 minutes from Aiken. I live in Beech Island just 15 minutes from Aiken. We have some good country roads for riding in the area with little traffic.
