Default PCV - 883 to 12xx Conversion???

Just curious...If one was to upgrade their 883 with PCV to a 12xx, would you be able to simply get/create PCV map for a 12xx based on bike hardware config?

Or are the guts/brains different enough in the PCV to require more than a remap?

Kicking around a winter project and trying to plan/think ahead for once...

Shouldn't be a need to buy another PCV. Just redo the one you have.

no need to get a new PCV -- just go to fuelmotousa.com and download the proper map for your AC / exhaust / engine combination, then download to the PCV ...

BTW, how are you planning to upgrade to 1200cc? thanks!

Thanks for the info. What threw me is Power Commanders website showing different part numbers for a 2009 1200 vs. a 2009 883. But logic tell me it is just map/software change.

Kicking around the NHRS 1250 kit for $700. Would probably do the work myself as a project, but still considering heads/cam changes as opposed to just the displacement upgrade.

Just talking out my *** right now. My wife might spend that $$$ on logical things like insurance, carpet, tires, or a washer/dryer or some other useless purchase. In my mind a 12xx kit is a must-have, not a nice to have. Right?

By the way...FuelMoto has got it right...Be great at what you do, sell at a good price, offer something your competitors do not (double warranty, free lifetime maps, etc), and realize customer service is actually servicing the customer.

Sad that they are the exception, and not the norm in today's day and age...

"Support yours or someones local indy"

...steps down from soapbox

Just a note of caution. There have been several people here that have had excessive oil burning issues after doing the NRHS 1250 upgrade on 04 and later Sporties and the end result was that they wound up selling their bikes because of it. NRHS is a solid company, but I have yet to here or see any explanation/resolution from NRHS as to why this issue persists or how its been resolved.

It was the type of rings (material) that was being used. It has long since been rectified.

From XL Forum:

The problem stemmed from the new oil squirters that Harley added to the 2004 and up. NRHS used soft rings for longevity and still do in 2003 or less bikes. Now in 2004 and up they use hard rings and there has been no more problems with oil consumption. Suzuki had the same problem when they added oil squirters.
NHRS Sales post:

Any customer who has had oil use problems with our kits please contact me if you need a new set of high tension oil control rings. This is only for iron lined or cast iron cylinders. You cannot use higher tension rings on Nikasil cylinders.

That's good to know, if in fact it was corrected. Seems like we went a couple of years here with people having problems and I've never seen anything published where NRHS acknowledged the problem and what it took to fix it.

Your right nothing was ever pulished as an announcement or a specific post. But there have been quite a few replies (by NRHS) in "others" threads from them on what the problem was and how to rectify it.

Sounds very logical to me.

Tell the wife its like purchasing a whole "new bike" for a slim $750. You are going to be MORE then satisfied with the power difference.
