Air cleaner and Pipes installed
Well all,
I put the SE breather on and the SE II slip ons on. 45 Slow jet 3 1/4 ( after tweaking a bit) turns out on the air screw. still get the carb farts when I quickly turn the throttle like a two stroke. I guess that must be normal. If I roll it on normally no carb farts.
If I rev this bike a few times letting it go back down to idle each time eventually I get the cartb farts. I gues that stuff is normal on the twins?? Im just used to the response of 2 strokes (Blip/Blip the throttle). Obviously I aint gonna get that with a 1200R Sporty.
The bike feels better, took it for a short spin and like the bit of difference the pipes and the breather made. Seems to get up the RPMS faster. The bike also feels like it has less vibration throughout the RPM range.
Plugs looked a bit white before the mod, the look like they are gaining a little color even with the short ride I did.
Jet change and Mix cap removal was easy. I didnt even remove the carb. I just pulled it off the manifold and tilted it up so I could gain access to the bowl and the air screw.
I want to thank all of the people who have answerd the questions I posted about this MOD. You made it alot easier and putt my mind at ease about dooing it.
I love my Sportster!

Carb farts are normal on bikes that run lean but should not be accepted. Most bikes like the 45 slow jet but some need the 48. Generally if you go more than 3-4 turns out on your mixture screw, you can bump up to a 48 with about 2 turns out as a starting point. Did you adjust your needle or check your float height? Float height can have an effect on idle and off-idle performance.

I don't think you want to back out the mixture screw more than 3 turns. I have heard that if that screw ever falls out you're better off buying a new carb. There are two things that can be happening here. 1) It needs bigger jets or 2) you have an intake leak. I would check for the intake leak first.
