miles on a sportster
#7
2800 isn't bad at all for any year sporty that's in good running shape. I live in milwaukee and I often times see wrecked sporties selling for $2000-2500 which do sell, as long as it has a good running engine. Anyhow I have a 94 and got somewhere in the ballpark of 75000 miles on it and it runs great.

I have a 1999 XL883 and I have over 42,000 miles on it and it runs GREAT! I don't think that it is the mileage alone that determines the value of the bike but also how well the bike was taken care of should also be taken into account. I have seen some very well maintained older bikes that I would not have minded buying and I have seen some newer models that looked pretty beat up to me and I could care less how many miles they had on them because it looked like too much work to get them back into shape if you know what I mean.

Any newer harley that has been well maintained 17,000 miles should not be a problem.
When you say bad what do you mean?
If the price was right i would buy one that had 17,000 that is about all it affects if the bike is in good condition as there are so many bikes out there with low miles on them why pay the same price for one with high miles if you understand what iam saying.
For instance my 07 dyna FXDC was 2yrs old yesterday and i have like 31,400 miles on it so my resale would suck even though the bike is like new and oil changed all the time with amsoil bike kept washed and waxed and maintained. But why would someone give me full price say $12,000 for my bike when there are plenty of 07 FXDC that have less than 4,000 miles on them and a brand new 09 is only like $13,000. That is where the bad comes into play for the guy resaling the bike. Good for the buyer as he can get the bike cheaper or buy one with less miles for the same price if the seller is asking to much.
But todays harleys if well maintained are going well over 100,000 miles and many up to and over 200,000.
