Default How big a boy are you?

I was just wondering how tall and how much people weigh that own a Sportster? Also for riders 6'1 or so what size apes do you run to male it comfortable, and also do you have to have foward controls? Im going tomorrow to check out a 2003 sportster with only 9200 miles and its a 1200 custom with anniversary paint and he said he would take 4500 for it which I thought was a good deal

This is my first post here, but im 6'1 and about 240 lbs and wondering even with foward contols and higher bars can I ride this bike comfortably or not? I only have about 5k to spend and cant find any dynas or softails in that range and i prefer the Harley

Well, I'm not sure how much help I'll be as I'm only 5'8'' so my '09 custom is plenty big for me. However there are several guys here that are your size and riden' sportsters. Really the only one that can answer your question is you. Have you owned a bike before? If so how big was it? Was you comfortable on it? You may not be comfortable on it until you make the bike yours. Unless you feel very cramped when your on it a new seat, rear shocks and bars may be the ticket to your comfort.

I'm 5'7ish 220 with a 30inch inseam. I think the sporty fits me well with forward controls, I hated the factory mid controls. I have owned many big bikes. Including a Honda Valkyrie and Star Roadliner. It's all what you get used to rideing.

This will be my first bike.

I would love to have a dyna but two problems I have a limited budget (paying cash) and I want a Harley. Since I was a kid I was in love with the sound of muscle cars and Harleys. Im only 25 years old, and most my age have street bikes but those rice rockets arent for me, I want a HOG. I have very limited experince riding, and im signed up to take a safety course in July. Im ready to get out there and ride, with the few times ive been out there is something about that calming wind that takes you to a new place.

All Sporsters but one around here have stock bars, I think with my height I will need apes but not sure what size is comfortable. Im 6'1 and 240 lbs with a 33" inseam but its either get a Sportster or wait and save another year before I can get out there riding. Plus I would much rather get the basics of riding on something if it gets a dent or accident occur I dont have 20k plus tied into it.

5'11" 220lbs 32" inseam riding an 09 custom (forward controls). I fit the bike fine,
but the stock seat left my butt numb after a couple hours so I'm trying out a
Sundowner. The Sundowner moves me up and forward about an inch and I'm
not sure I like that as it forces me to slouch a bit.

I'm 6"0" -210 lbs. I ride an '03 XLH1200 and love it. I've had it since Feb. First Harley I've owned. First time to ride in 30 yrs. I'm 62. I average riding 500 mi a week. Some had aid it was to rough, but I have arthritis in my hips and knees. Ifeel like I've had a full body massage after riding. If I don't get to ride for two or three days because of rain, I live two miles down a dirt road, I feel terrible.

I think you'll be fine on the Harley. Besides, it's the one you want and is a great bike. I see a lot of guys bigger than you on them/ Just make adjustments for your comfort.

Thats what i thought, anything I should look for as far as issues? Most im looking at are 2001-2003 models but I wish i could find a 2004 because of the rubber mounted engine as well as the larger rear tire, I like the 150 rear tire over the 130.
