I'm 5'10" and 220 and I ride an 883L with forward controls. I have no comfort issues at all (well the stock seat sucks but thats a given).

If you want a Harley don't settle for a metric, you will regret it.

The leg room between a sportster, dyna and softtail may be a couple of inches, as some have said, but they aren't factoring in the seat. Seats move the rider forward, back, up and down...all of which affect your leg reach. In addition, you can always get forward control extensions to stretch out further.

Do Highway Pegs stick out further than forward controls?

I went and sat on some yesterday and it seems they fit ok not sure about long distance riding. They all had stock bars, I think with some 14-16" apes I could get comfortable. I need to find someone who has a Sporster that fits me to see how comfortable to me.

Also which would you do, I can get a 2003 Sportster 1200C with aniversary paint with 9,000 miles or I can get a 1988 Dyna Lowrider with new red paint and also had the motor rebuilt with bigger cams, hi comp pistons, etc. Think that bike has 33,000 miles on it but i know the owner and he always serviced it on time with quality products and the guys that redid the engine are well known around here and come highly recommended. I can get both bikes for 4500, what would you get?

Just my opinion but I would go with the Sporty. Odds are greater that you would be wrenching on the Dyna alot and as others have stated, there is so much you can do to the sporty to make the ride comfortable.

im 5'9 at 130lbs, rides great on the road the only thing that I have are metal flex plates on overpasses and bridges.. definitely not bike friendly.. every time I hit one if I don't raise my @$$ my back starts to hurt after 2 or 3.

Thats what I was afraid of with an older bike is constant repair. I go Sundays tob ars with friends and always get the felling that most think the bike is too small, but I ride what i can afford
