I'm 6'2", 185, 34 inch inseam, and the main problem I have with the Sportsters is the lack of leg room even with the factory 'forward controls'.
Apparently Harley thought many 'shorter folks' would be purchasing the Sportsters as one of the things they did with the MY 2004 changes was to move the factory forward controls approximately 1.5" closer to the rider.
If I rode my 2005 1200C more than I currently do I would have some brackets fabricated to move the forward controls out about 3 inches.
As you can see from the below pictures (comparing my 1200C to my Dyna WideGlide) the so called 'forward controls' on the Sportsters are set back closer to the rider, and what I would call "mid-forward controls"...

I think you should wait and get a bigger harley if harley is what you are dead set on. I'm 5'8" and 135 and i could use a bigger bike. Belive me you need to wait. I can live with my harley for the rest of my life, but i fit it. Its a small framed bike, you won't be happy. Look at other brands or just hold of for that bigger harley. My dad is about the same size as you and looks funny on it. (oh and im close to your age- 28)

I'm 6' 250-260 depending and I ride a 2001 1200 sporty with mid-controls and highway pegs. It is a fun bike with a decent amount of power and comfort.
I've never had a problem with it by myself, but my wife wanted a bigger seat and storage space. So we did just pick up an Ultra Glide as well.

So some say its good, some say to small a bike. Well I figured if I drove it a year or so I would get a bigger bike and seems the sporsters are easily sold and hold there value quite well, so If i bought one for 4k and got 3500 a year or two later for it I would be happy with that and then could get a bigger bike, why is that not a good idea, any cons to do doing this?

6'-2" and 280 here. Got Arlen Ness drag bars and LePera seat. It's hard on my back when doing long rides, but I'm good when riding local and know the roads very well as I tro to avoid hitting potholes.
Sportys are great bikes, but not for everyone. If you want one, Go/get it and customize the way you want down the road.

I looked at Metric bikes but dont get that same feel, the metrics look much harder to work on, dont hold their value well. Not sure if I could do drag bars even tho i like the look, I think with apes and foward controls I would fit well, or so I think. When I go look today ill let you guys know how it goes
