Default screamin eagle ignition

i saw that screaming eagle puts out an ignition mod kit. from the website it states
"This module is 50-state street legal, and is programmed to allow the engine to
turn 7000 RPM while maintaining stock ignition curves at lower engine speed.
EO Pending on '06 models."
is anyone running this
and is it worth the money to install
will you see a difference besides the 7000rpm

I have one on my bike and with the AC , pipe and a carb tune my long time rider neighbor says " That things quicker then greased bird poop."

It seems to help open up the top end, kinda of like you run out of gear before you run out of RPMs.

I would recommend it, but that don't mean much.

Everything I've read says don't buy it if you have an 06. Yes, it will raise your rev limiter, but it will also throw your speedo ahead by 20%... so I've read. If the rest of the ignition curve is the same, then I don't see why it would perform any different.

I had/have one, and yes, it screws up your speedo on a 06. The reason, I finally found out, is that the 06's have helical cut tranny gears, and everything prior to that had straight cut gears. Apparently this has something to do with it. The signal from the speed sensor is different I guess. I now have a Thunder Heart module, and it too has a problem with my speedo. I'm still adjusting it, as it allows you to make adjustments, via uploads to the module by your laptop.

is this module a plug and play or do you need to do any programing? I have an '05 and been thinking about put one on.

I'll be running the SE "E" cam's in my 2005 1200C, and thought about upgrading the stock ignition, but I don't know if it would be worth the time, trouble, and extra expense for normal street riding.

From what I understand the stock rev-limiter is set close to 6,000 RPM, and dyno tests show that even with high performance Stage 2 heads, the "E" cam's show peak performance at 6,000 RPM, and horsepower starts to fall after that point.

No point in having a 7,000 RPM ignition/rev-limiter if you are going to be shifting at 6,000 RPM or lower, which is probably the case in 99.9% of 'real world' riding on the streets.

Might be a different situation if I was setting up a bike to run strictly at the track, where you live in the high RPM range, but I'm looking more for low to mid range horsepower/torque in the 3,500 RPM to 5,500 RPM range. The stock ignition shouldn't have any problems living in those conditions.

Which model are you guys talking about? I have found 4 different parts numbers and 2 different descriptions. Do they all have issues with the 06's and speedos? Wondering if someone cracked the code with the helical gearing issue and did a programming fix or if its only with one of these.

From the 06 SE catalog I found the SE Pro Performance Ignition System Module - XL Models
31758-04A '04-later XL883 models
31759-04A '04-later XL1200 models
This module is programmed to allow the engine to turn 7000 RPM and retards timing by 5 degrees at wide open throttle. For race applications only.

From the HD webiste I found the SE Street Legal Ignition System
31784-04A '04-later XL883/C models
31785-04A '04-later XL1200C/R models
This module is 50-state street legal, and is programmed to allow the ngine to turn 7000 RPM while maintaining stock ignition curves at lower engine speed. EO pending on '06 models.

****************

So they both give you 7000 RPM limit. Street legal maintains stock ignition curves at low speed. Does that mean the other one does not? Pro Perf module retards timing at higher RPMS; which equals better perf and more output, right?

31759-04A (Pro perf for XL1200) is the one I planned on putting on my bike. Going to do in conjunction with cams, heads, and pistons. No one mentioned the issue with the speedo before now. Is the speedo error consistant throughout? Or is it 5 off up to 25, 7 off to 45, 9 off above 55, etc...???

At the same time, not a whole lot of point in running the E cams with the stock ignition. That's what I'm doing now and it drives me nuts! Every time I get on it, the rev limiter kicks in just after the cams do... frustrating! If you're going to put the money into cams, spend the extra and upgrade your ignition. ... ... just my .02

That's what I'm planning. Cams WITH the ignition module. Stock limit is 5400, isn't it?

Kinda embarrassing when you get on it and try to hit the limit.....BBBWWAAAAAAAA....but....put...but....but ...but....(shift)....BBBBWWWAAAAA........
Don't ask how I know that.

Sporty's got a lot more power up there. I may not need 7K but I can definitely use more than what's available stock.
