Default nightster exhaust ?

Im looking for some clarification. Im looking to buy an 08 nightster with V&H short shots on it already. Im still new to add ons and mods for harley and Im a lil confused on if the bike has the exhaust only with out a stage 1 will that mess anything up with how the bike runs or performs. Ive been told that you need to do other things and Ive also been told that it is no problem. The guy said he didnt do anything else to it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

If it is just the pipes then you have no worries. You don't need to do anything else like downloads to make the bike run properly. You change things like the air cleaner then you will have to consider doing that.

Like he said It should be fine. It just isn't really going to give you any large performance increase as it would if you did the pipes and the air cleaner and a fual management system.

I have, however, heard of people with just the VnH short shots on having a little bit of popping on Decel due to the pipes being so short.

It will help to add some 02 IED from Nightrider.com. A very inexpensive plug & play fuel management system. I have it on my 2008 . . . . and it runs fine with NO popping.

check it out.

I had the short shots on mine without the full stage one for a couple weeks and didn't have any issues. The guys down at the custom shop I use said that Vance and Hines usually makes a pretty nice plug and play pipe without any need for big changes. Even if the bike is popping a little on the decel, I was told that it doesn't hurt the bike at all. Like everyone's already said, you just won't see any noticeable performance change without an air cleaner and fuel management.

On one other note, I was a huge skeptic of the dyno. A buddy of mine with a Road King had his dynoed with just new pipes and he said that it's like having a new bike. No popping on deceleration (which was a problem before), no ticking when he gets on it at low RPM, and overall smoother idle. I had mine dynoed when I installed the full stage I and my bike is a whole different animal as well.
