When i get on the gas and shift from 2nd to 3rd, it revs up but does not go in gear.... as i let off throttle it clunks in by it self i dont touch clutch or shifter it just pops in

any thoughts?? its only 3rd gear!!!

 

Check the primary chain adjustment.

 

Is it just 3rd gear or is it doing it for the higher gears as well to any extent?

 

first thing I'd do is adjust primary chain, then change primary fluid. If that doesn't help, then I'd next take a look at the shift pawl mechanism which is located behind the clutch basket, so you have to pull the primary cover off and also the clutch to get at it. From there the other possibility is either a bent shift fork, or possibly a worn shift drum. But start with the simplest things first, primary chain adjustment, clutch adjustment, and new fluid.
