It sounds like the belt to me too. I'd check the alignment. Get a stiff wire and measure from the center of the rear fork to the center of the rear axle. Could be just a little tight and a little off center. Easy to fix. You have to push the brake line, on the left, out of the way to get a good measurement.

Take the bike to another dealer or an Indy. Sounds like the one you are using kinda sucks.

The belt is definitely too tight.

I had a similar sound on mine, when my buddy and his wife took it for a ride, it ended up being the belt rubbing the rear brake line. The best thing to do is have two heavy people sit on the bike while you check clearances. Just grab a flashlight and look all over the swingarm

Thank you to all of you who helped out here. Last night I got the bike back and they said that they would never put two techs on a bike to reproduce an issue. I asked about the belt tension and alignment and how it was done, even though I already have a good idea how it is done. I got "the tech's use their own judgement and have shortcuts". So I am going to ride it with the girlfriend on it and then take it back to them. I personally think one of the largest dealers in the DC Metro area should do their jobs. Oh, and then I am going to talk to the GM and the Service Manager.

AJ
do a simple test for me.
go out to the bike and look down at lower belt guard and you will see some notches
press up on the belt and see how much it moves and let us know?
and as for alignment make a simple tool like this (picture)but instead of brass thing just use a rubber O-ring
this is easly done by you,**** on them dealers do the work yourself.

then long end where O-ring is,line up with dimple in rear axle.

They do make a tool specifically for belt tension setting and adjustment, it might be designed for softails but I've used it myself and i set everything per HD spec and VERY seldom hear the same noise, usually next to guard rails or something. The fact the dealer told you that the tech uses their own judgment is crap, find an indy shop to do it if you can't get rid of it on your own and jsut make sure the alignment is correct, that alone can cause some noise.

Thanks once again. I think the thing that gets me is my bike is brand new.
