Default Idle screw on 07-09 Sportsters/Nightsters

Where is the screw at? My Iron is idling waaaaaaaay to fast. Didn't notice it until I put the new pipes on and I've gotta slow this baby down.

Idle should be around 1,000- 1,050 rpm's when warmed up, 1,200-1,250 rpm's cold. From what I read it's to keep the oil pressure up where it should be, so you don't have to keep twisting the throttle to get the pressure to come up. Hope that helps. Ride safe.

yes, fuel injected bikes will run fast cold, and thats due to the auto-choke that fuel injection uses. Once warm, idle will drop. Fuel injected bikes will have a slightly higher idle for two reasons, to keep oil pressure up and to keep battery charge voltage up.

You need to get some sought of fuel management program if it changed that much after your new pipes. Look into the screamin eagle race tuner (sert). Have one installed on my Ultra. Hook the bike up to a lap top and you can actually fine to the bike the way you want.

You need a power commander or it's equal.

Your scoot should idle at about 1K when warm to keep oil pressure up.

Go ahead and buy the power commander or maybe a tundermax with auto tune....either will open the door for future mods and give you the control you need to keep it running properly.

Idle speed is controlled through the electronics

"Idle Air Controllers" on your intake manifold act like the butterfly stop on a carb, and are controlled by the ECM on an EFI bike. Idle speed can be tweaked by fuel management or re-programming the ECM, but like oinker02 said, the factory sets idle speed to about 1000 rpm to ensure enough oil pressure to lube the rockers.

If it's idling at 1500RPM r so (like the fast idle warm-up), I've read on this forum that the ECM sometimes gets confused if you shut off the engine with the kill-switch instead of the ignition switch. There's a reset procedure here: https://www.hdforums.com/forum/sport...fast-idle.html
I've never experienced it, so I can't say if it is true or not.
